RISD (pronounced Rizdee) is one of the most prestigious fine arts schools in the world. Lots of famous artists have graduated from there.
They can take their pick of applicants, so in order to get in, you have to have plenty of talent. You will need a strong portfolio, and you will need good references from your art teacher to say that you are dedicated to art and you are a hard worker. They are going to expect a lot from you, and you will work with some brilliant and talented teachers. This is NOT a good place to go unless you are a driven artist who wants to make your mark in the world of art by being more creative and harder working than anyone else.

So, I’d say that your portfolio is pretty important, but you also need to be a respectable student in your other courses other than art. I don’t think they want to give a BA to anyone who isn’t educated.
