The one that gets you a degree fastest. Game design is about your creativity. They can only do so much in class. Then it becomes up to you to succeed.

    Good luck!

You need to talk to the places that you’ll want to work at and see which school they prefer.

  4. sandcatsle says on: 11 January 2009 at 11:19 am

Visit both places and see which one you feel more comfortable with. Forget about which one is better known. If it is not an Ivy league school, the name is not really that important.

it does not matter which school you went. it does matter what you’ve learned

    ITT tec

monkey face they are trying to get a real job that is why they are going back to school wtf not to mention you don’t know that they dodn’t have a real job. They are looking for an answer not an insult

ITT Tech is much more advanced at a technology standpoint, their equipment is top of the line and although IADT may be closer to your house ITT will outweigh the benefits of that

You should compare cost of classes of length on classes. Keep them factors in mind and choose which is best for you. Good luck!

It sounds to me that you would prefer to go to ITT Tech.Go there that is where your heart is go for it or you will regret it later on in life.Nothing ventured nothing gained!

You should definitely go to ITT. You have already mentioned all the good reasons why. You have more reasons for going there than to the other school.

see its not important to see that the school is far or closer but its important to see which one is better. ITT is well known and acc. to u its better than iadt so u should take admission in a school which gives u 100% job assistance. and from the u things u have wrote i think u should go for ITT. best of luck.

Going back to school, especially after a long break, is always a tough decision. Are you getting any sort of financial aid or tuition reimbursement? If not, go with the cheaper school. Convenience and commute time will also make a difference if you work (trust me!). Does either school offer courses online? Employers aren’t necessarily going to look for schools that are well known, they are going to look at how well you did in school. The other question is, are both schools accredited? Big deciding factor.

    Good luck.

You have to weigh out your options. Is ITT too far from your house? Which college do you like more? Think would you like to go to school that you can’t stand just because of the name and recommendation or go to a school that you like and still get the education? The school you like will help influence you on going to class. If you don’t like the school, you won’t be more prone to go and end up messing up your degree. Pick the school cause you like it, not because everyone else thinks you should like it. They are not you and people like different things.

It’s important to go to a school that has a good alumni network or work placement program. If ITT Tech has a lot of people who work in game design who will be part of your alum network, then go for it. IF IADT has a better alum network, then go there. If what you learn there is comparable, it’ll be who you know, not what you know, that will get you your first job.

I freelance in games, and all my jobs have come through networking, not through my degree. Of course, I’m not a programmer ;)

    What school?
I would choose the closer one, it makes everything easier for you. It also seems to me that they are more specialized in what you want to learn, and they seem to be smaller. This can make things easier for you, too, than finding your way at a large campus as a beginner.

However, after graduating from this school, I would spend 1-2 semesters at ITT and get a degree with the credentials you will then already have.

    The choice is yours.

I am looking at a second career. I am older and at a point of my life that I am going to get into something I have always wanted to do….Game Programming…I am pretty good at math and have taken a few programming classes i.e. vb.net, c++…my question is how well will Full Sail prepare me for the game design world without any game design experiance except what I plan to learn and do in school. Being older than most students, I want to make sure I can get the most out it…thanks for the forum…

Hey Keith, I’ve seen guys in their 30’s go back to school at Fullsail and end up working in CG afterwards, but unfortunately I haven’t seen one get into a video game studio yet. However one of them (who did game art) has recently started getting responses back from some studios who are discussing possibly hiring him (I’m crossing my fingers and really hope they do!); this is after working lots of odd jobs and not being paid very well (sometimes not at all) for 4-5 years after attending Fullsail. If you understand that it’s still a very hard time getting into video games even after the degree and that you have to work really hard, then go for it. But if you are hoping to just put something together in school and instantly get in to a studio after mere months of graduating, then don’t because you will most likely be disappointed.

I know one programmer who is in his mid twenties, graduated Full Sail in his early twenties, and just now got into Bioware, but he worked and worked and worked for the past year(s?) on his portfolio. I mean he literally woke up, ate breakfast, went to work for 8 hours + lunch, came home, worked on honing his skills, tweaked his portfolio, went to bed in the early am hours, and started it all over the next day. I would only see him at lunch; outside of that he didn’t seem to have much of a social life. Also he spent time on CG forums asking people to review his stuff over and over again so that he could improve it.

Full Sail is one of the best schools out there for getting into video games, but it only teaches the basics. All schools like this only teach the basics. And boy, there are a lot of basics to teach! You are expected to teach yourself the rest, and having only 21 months of experience is not enough to get a good job in games (most times it isn’t enough to get a job in games at all).

If you go to Full Sail, your best chance is to start studying before you go. Re-go over C++ and learn C# & Python, and most of all get acquainted with Maya before you go to the school. The 3d Content Creation class is only one month and that isn’t long enough to comprehend what’s going on without prior knowledge. Same thing goes for any of the degrees where you go over Maya (game art and computer animation).

So in short if you are self motivated, not easily put down, a hard and diligent worker, and full of patience, then go for it!
